Two things.
a) not of works - refers to justification
b) in good works - refers to the justice being actually kept by our cooperation.

Sounds humble to basically compare cooperating with grace to cooperating with the functioning of day and night, but it isn't.
a) because all good works are in fact prepared - our baby steps, God holding the hand
b) because it allows one to ignore a Christian duty of doing this or leaving do that, i e it opens a door to disobedience.

Verse 9, which you quote, says "not of works" - as Romans 3 says of Abraham's justification.

Now, there was an Inquisitorial process in Vilvoorde which centred on Romans 3.

Tyndale said, Abraham's justification did not involve him promising future works, Latomus said, it did involve that. Both agreed it did not involve past works.

Now, verse 10, which you do not quote, says "in good works" ... sounds pretty much like Latomus' position, not Tyndale's. Then Philippians 2 confirms that too:

12 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, (as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but much more now in my absence,) with fear and trembling work out your salvation 13 For it is God who worketh in you, both to will and to accomplish, according to his good will.

This also contains the explanation, very concisely, why the intention of future good works being necessary in the justification of an adult (a baby is not explicitly intending it, presumably) does not allow any boasting, since it's not one's own works but God's works inside one. Exacvtly as further confirmed by Galatians 2:20.

Was this the whole population of the age of 12th graders? No. "The averaged freshman graduation rate provides an estimate of the percentage of students who receive a regular diploma within 4 years of entering ninth grade."

So, what was it in that school year? 78.7 %. LOTS didn't complete high school. That would include some who never entered 9th grade in the first place, and therefore don't count in this percentage.

And not too few of them were having sex, because they were married.

So, what PP was doing was most certainly not "sexualising children" but rather telling students (much like Cohn-Bendit in 1968) they could have sex already and still study.

It can be mentioned, some people have an interest in calling 9-11th grade age students or non-students "children" ...

• teachers don't like to get cuts in their work forces (especially not junior ones who would be the first to get sacked)
• groomers feed on the frustration of people, probably mainly girls, who have adult bodies and are socially qualified as "children"
• sometimes these categories coincide
• psychologists who give therapy for trauma and for neuroses also feed on this frustration
• also sometimes coincides with groomers.

I perfectly get it, some people actually should have RRR and when they have mastered that, some training in their future profession or role as a mother. Not go to High School. But in that case, and a few other ones, they also shouldn't be taught of as "too young to have sex" just because they are the age of freshman (or let alone even older).

May I give my five cents before you start, right at 0:01, on the question?

1) teens are biologically adult
2) teens are required to be socially children

If being biologically male and getting socially treated as female hurts, even those actually asking for it, and if being biologically female and getting socially treated as male hurts, chances are, being biologically a child and getting socially treated as an adult (unlikely to happen) will hurt one, but getting treated as a child socially while being biologically adult is also a recipe for hurting.

Lower ages for marriage, and make statutory rape an offense only if offender refuses to repair it by marriage.

Make it easier to quit school totally, not just for homeschooling, but totally, earlier on, as a wife or as a breadwinner.

And start making a few more babies, so the number of old people who have insufficient own children to give advice to is proportionally reduced.

Being given too much advice one does not want, from too many different people, or otherwise too inescapable, is a pretty good recipe, either for wrath or for sadness. But not for happiness.

I am so glad I am not volunteering for therapy, so far.

If YOU should consider anything I do or say horrible, please take that conversation and I will (usually) not blame my childhood or teens or other situation.

That promise doesn't cover being male and once in a while knitting - in case you think that horrible. I did grow up with too few males to teach woodwork after I got old enough to get good at things.

But normally, as you are not in Paris, you would not be concerned with me knitting, you would be concerned with what I actually say.

One more. I will also blame knowing the Swedish education system too well for knowing better than you where Greta Thunberg's coming from - in case you think that horrible. I will also blame being a patriot and chivalrous to ladies for it. She is a compatriot of mine and a young lady.

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was released by German police on Tuesday evening after being detained earlier in the day at a protest over the expansion of a coal mine in the western village of Lützerath, police confirmed to CNN on Wednesday.

This is the second time Thunberg has been detained at the site, police spokesperson Christof Hüls told CNN Tuesday. She was part of a large group of protesters that broke through a police barrier and encroached on a coal pit, which authorities have not been able to secure entirely, Hüls said.

After the group advanced on the coal pit, police were concerned that the “masses of protesters” could set the ground in motion after it had been softened by rainfall during the last few days. Officers intervened, removing people from the “danger area” and detaining them, one of whom was Thunberg, according to police.

“We knew who she was, but she did not get VIP treatment,” Hüls said. “She did not resist,” he added.

Thunberg had been the main speaker at the rally on Saturday and had “surprisingly” returned to protest on Sunday when she was detained the first time and then again on Tuesday, he said.

Police said the group detained on Tuesday would be released later in the day, Reuters reported.

Let's Fact Check First ... or Not

I tried to fact check with Nanterre University on whether it was credible that UPenn had 26 or 27 professors in Political Sciences.

So now I tried, and already having told you it looks a red flag to me, but then I was at much smaller subjects at University, and Lund is a smaller one than UPenn, so I really don't know.

Actually I'm not really even positive that "professor" covers same thing in US and Sweden. I think I have come across "docent" or "lector" being in English "assistant professor" - in Sweden a professor is chief of a department.

Before you get unduly impressed by such a thing, check the language families. My 8 are only from Germanic and Romance. I have lost my Greek. I was getting into Polish and Lithuanian, but my Lithuanian from Spring Term 2003 was very rusty by Spring Term 2004, and my Polish from Autumn Term 2003 has rusted since 2004.

The only languages I have some fluency in (written, or spoken and written) are from Germanic and Romance families. Pick up one of either fairly well, and you can pick up others too, with due diligence and much use of writing. One could consider Swedish, German, English, Danish and Dutch as dialects of Germanic. One could consider Latin, French, Spanish and Italian as dialects of Romance. So, I usually say "I only know two languages, but in more than one dialect" ...

It is not highly usual, but it's also not something like a prodigy either.

What I find intriguing is a university having 26 professors at one single subject.

At the then Classics Institution (perhaps it's reemerged into independence), there was one professor each of Latin, Ancient Greek, and it seemed to be the case with Classic Archeology and History and with Modern Greek, except perhaps Modern Greek was just a Doctor or Docent or Lector. In addition, Latin had a Docent (my second regular father confessor) and Greek a lector (a neo-pagan who liked making fun of feminists and wokeness), and I don't know exactly how much subsidiary teachers there were in the other parts, and all had pretty many PhD students. I interrupted my studies just before actually becoming one, but got access to seminaries when I had made 3 or 4 terms in Latin. Or exams for this, with some delays ...

Could be because the subjects were small ones. I'll ask Patrick Trabal if Sci Po is different so 26 professors at UPenn becomes credible.

1) What I acquired since I was 18 is anyway so ultra-geeky, a 53 year old woman would be as much behind if she started dating me as an 18 year old girl.

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't think they deserve to be killed or something, but I do think it is permissible and advisible for men, even my age, to get younger women so they don't get a child with Downs as the very first one. I think it vastly better for a child of that condition to have elder siblings.

Yes, it has more to do with the age of the woman than with the age of the man. From 20 to 40 in a woman, the risk of having a child with Downs rises from 1 / 10 000 to 1 / 100. For every ten years a man is above 35, it only compounds this with 11 % of the risk as it is.

I am not sure you got the memo, but as a Catholic, I believe the FIRST purpose of marriage is to get children. Primum bonum matromonii proles. There are two other ones as well, defeating what lust would otherwise make sinful, and the honour of mutual exclusivity.

An unmarried man who dates someone around 18 while he is 50 is the moral equal of an unmarried man who does so while he is 18, not of a married man of 50 trying to get adulterously laid with a girl of 18.

And the reasons I am yet unmarried are partly due to the first thing I mention, and partly due to prejudices like the one you voice here. AND, yes, I could have avoided it if I had left Sweden a year or two before 30, but a Catholic (SSPX) priest I corresponded with told me not to. This led to (along with my very misplaced obedience) difficulties that degraded my life to when I finally left Sweden, and beyond.

Life is a gift. Sometimes we get it in somewhat painful circumstances. CSL and JRRT both lost mothers, to cancer and diabetes - at age 7. How would they have been happier if their mothers had foreseen to be dying soon, and abstained from "selfishly" making babies? They wouldn't have been happy, because they wouldn't have existed.

But how often does society suffer the consequences of children being brought up in trauma? Trauma is why there are so many drug addict, mentally ill, homeless people. More homeless people that society now has to deal with.

In biology, man and woman are not equal. A significantly older wife is not comparable to a significantly older husband. Man has the longer fertility span. Would not have been the case before the fall, was not perhaps even the case before the Flood, but is the case now.

A woman can marry an age peer, and her husband will still be active when it becomes irksom to her due to menopause, so, he will be tempted to infidelity.
Or she can marry an older man, they can calm down sexually same calendar year, and his "infidelities to her" will have been before they met or before they married.

The push for 18 (raising marriageable age to) came from progressives and anticlericals, not from Christians.

The key is what you mean by "fully" - should you have run your own business at 18? No. But did you have the EQ to pick a husband? Yes, you did, even if you didn't actually pick one back then.

For centuries, the Church has held to 14 / 12, only in the XXth C. raising it to 16 / 14. The younger age being the one when a girl could become a married woman, because puberty comes on average two years later in men.

I agree 18 is a bit too young to run a business with book-keeping - and business does require experience. But picking a man or a wife requires taste.

I took a look at the age stats (both death and marriage) in the offspring of St. Lewis IX of France up to the generation of Lewis XI (not getting in all of them, I got exhausted after somewhere beyond 600).

The dates for when they married were not available on wiki so often, so, I get a far numeric basis for my estimate (not to mention quite a few died unmarried).

Of the ladies, ten married at unknown ages, and 58 between 7 (would have been betrothal abusively counted as final marriage) and 24. Median 16.
Of the gents, 17 married at unknown age, and 46 at ages between 11 (see previous) and 49, median 24.

In other stats on royalties, I find even more discrepancy, like a couple ancestral to* Prince Albert, the man was 43 years older than a 16 year old wife.

Sorry, that was a conflation, that man was 43 years older than a 20 year old wife* and another couple** was between a man of 43 (age, not older) and a woman of 16.
