Genesis 3 Attacks

Ken Ham has made a video on them:

In the first ten minutes, he manages to misconstrue Luther as speaking on God's behalf, not the serpents, but after that we'll get to sound YEC stuff.

1:13 I'd agree we feel the reverberations of the Reformation today.

Abortion and Divorce, Evolutionism and Heliocentrism are a few of the indirect (for divorce even direct) heirlooms ...

9:45 Carbon dating needs calibration, and calibration means carbon levels in times past are verified by comparing carbon dates to more reliable sources of dates (when available).

Since the Bible is more reliable, I use it to calibrate carbon dating.

TideOfaMoleculeWeOnceKnew
They carbon dated new rocks formed from the Mt Saint Helens Volcanic explosion, 30 years after the explosion, making these rocks 30 years old, they found the rocks to be anywhere from 300,000- 3,000,000 years old. Yes carbon dating is indeed satanic fallacy.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
@TideOfaMoleculeWeOnceKnew That is not carbon date. That is argon date.

Just because "carbon" and "argon" sound similar doesn't mean they are the same element or that what's wrong with one dating method applies to the other one as well.

Hans-Georg Lundahl
Ronnie Buchanan made an answer comment which seems to have disappeared.

I am very well aware of the difference between carbon 14 and argon 40.

As to "only reliable to 50 000 years" - I checked earthsci dot org and found remaining pmC after 50 000 years to be 0.236. Half of that is 0.118.

"This sample is getting close to the limits of present accuracy (55 000 to 60 000 years)"

So, by now to 55 000 years.

As to "but they always claim contamination" - who does?

Either way, the considerations do not affect my calibration.

39 000 BP is my carbon date for 2957 BC, i e the year of the Flood. What is left now of that is 0.894 pmC, so any sample which now has less than 0.894 pmC is in my view Pre-Flood, within which I have not bothered to further calibrate.

This means, in 2957 BC, roughly 5000 years ago, the immediate carbon age was 34 000 years, so the carbon 14 level was 1.636 pmC. In my view it then took to the Fall of Troy, very little before King David, until it reached 100 pmC.

10:30 Yeah, and a certain guy came along and said "did God really say indulgences were a good idea?"

And the Counsel of Trent dealt with that Genesis 3 attack.

11:19 [Ken Ham has said the one that always pops up is conflict between science and the Bible.]

There is another one that also pops up.

"If you believe all the gods of all the other religions are fictions, why aren't you consistent and apply that to your own religion as well?"

The answer needs to take into account that neither all of the pagan gods in all their capacities (they tend to conflate very different things in false overall pictures) are fictions, nor all of the stories in the pagan mythologies.

More than one of them have, for instance a Flood Myth. What happened? You will agree, we all descend from Noah and his three sons and from their wives. Hence all human populations started out with a memory or descending from people with a memory of the Flood.

The one type of story that invariably or nearly are fictions is how gods and visible universe came to be.

There is a huge difference between a God who freely creates earth from nothing, and monsters from earth on days five and six, and a god descended from a monster who kills it and creates earth of it (Enlil with Tiamat, Odin and brothers with Ymir). The one story is not a simple misunderstanding of the other, it's a substitute. There is a huge difference also with a god coming into being from water, and creating dry land by shining on it from above. Or with a cosmic egg in which the chicken is a first man, but some other things become heavens or earth or seas (I think this Chinese story, probably not accepted by all schools even before Communism, has a counterpart in Orphicism). Such stories cannot be salvaged as even partly true.

But most in any given mythology will be stories of heros - and they will be men and women who really lived, and whose real interactions with God, devil and each other were partly misunderstood as interactions with gods, and in some cases they become gods themselves, like Siddharta Gautama is for Buddhism.

Similarily, their gods, while all of them are "nothing" as the Pagans think they are, while all of them are "wood and metals" as the idols are fabricated, while all of them are "demons" as the idols worshipped are a credit given to the demons' power to deceive, each specific god may have several different types of origin:

  • a misunderstanding about God - I've already mentioned how "Enlil" worship misunderstands the Creator, Enlil and Enki, in conflict with each other, replace the one God who both sent the Flood and saved Noah, Brahma going to sleep and dreaming up the world is another way that Pagans misunderstand the Creator, and so on;
  • a man who is wrongfully deified (Hercules, Krishna, Siddharta, Apollo the Healer and his son and daughters)
  • a demon who deceives people in his manifestations, whether these be fake "theophanies" or seances (Shiva, Apollo the Delphic, or any Apollo other than the Healer)
  • an angelic being dealing with nature objects and phenomena (good angel for stars or demon for storms) is misconstrued as a deity who can licitly get worshipped)
  • social and psychological phenomena are deified (Ares and Bacchus or Venus and Jove).

54:41 Forty two is actually a very good answer.*

Jesus is 3 * 14 from Abraham. 3 * 14 = 42. Perhaps not totally correct with one of the 14 stretches overlapping and another not overlapping, with the one in the middle, but fairly good for a computer. See Matthew chapter 1.

58:01 That especially Martin Luther had** ...

1:02:52 So, for the Wittenberg example, which side had the correct and unquestioned authority of the word of God?

It's the Catholics who got the revivals : Jesuits, Unshod Carmelites, Capuchins, and all the married people who were inspired to a Christian walk with a total confidence in God.

It's the Protestants who got destruction and filled in wells, like ...

  • James Hutton, his associate John Playfair was a Minister of the Kirk of Scotland.
  • Or Lyell and Darwin, Church of England.
  • Or Milton and Newton elevating Galileo to hero or saint status, because he was a "captive of the Inquisition" and because one could make interesting vector diagrams from an Earth around a Sun, or a Moon around an Earth.

Calvinists, Anglicans, more or less Arianising people ...

* Ken Ham told a story of an old principal speaking at a graduation ceremony and mentioning Douglas Adams
** Ken Ham had spoken of fallible and sometimes wrong thoughts we all have, that "even" Martin Luther had ...
